Mrs. Thaw sweeps away the snow, to the children’s dismay.

140106 Mrs Thaw sweeping the snow. Handmade Waldorf Winter Seasons Table Doll

“Dear Mrs. Thaw, please go!
Don’t take away our snow!”

…but one lovely day, Spring came driving up in her airy carriage drawn by white butterflies. Then Ollie saw Mrs. Thaw, as she stood by the side of the ditch, wearing a brand new apron. She curtsied to Spring, beaming with delight. For the first time, Ollie really liked Mrs. Thaw, and knew that she wasn’t so bad after all. But he did wish she would learn to come at the proper time. In spring, my handmade Mrs. Thaw doll reverses her green apron and dons on the bright cheery white lace one to welcome the spring flowers.

The crafter’s soap box…

June 15, 2012. A cool Friday. Crafting is really under-rated. It is a very soothing and rejuvenating exercise for the soul. Being a very goal oriented person, who has been trained in life to judge the values of  different endeavors in life in a hierachical manner (from importance/execute to frivolity/avoid), it is difficult for me to just let go, justify and enjoy the simple process of crafting. But whenever I do, it fills me with much joy.

June 11, 2012. A sunny weekday. While taking my boys and autism therapists to Vista Park this week, I collected our local Costa Mesa pine needles for the final part of this project. These pine needles and 1 pine twig completed the broomstick of Mrs. Thaw. Her cape is made of wool felt hand dyed by Christine Newell.

Mrs. Thaw’s face is needle felted with glass beads from our local Piecemakers Country store. Piecemakers is such a one-of-a-kind piece of Americana. I LOVE it! One should treat oneself by stopping by and checking it out sometime.

June 2012, Wednesday morning. Much joy welled in my heart when a very respectable crafter asked me where I bought the face for Mrs. Thaw. Well, I needle felted it from a ball of wool. Thanks for your question, you made my day! Mrs. Thaw is 100% handmade by yours truly.
