This year (2012) our Waldorf School of Orange County Wednesday morning craft group came together and made a “Knitted Farmyard Garden” to raise funds for our school. Thank you Rachel Skelly and Christine Newell for organizing our beautiful Wednesday morning craft group get-togethers!

June 7, 2012. Today, Denise told the group that our “Knitted Farmyard Garden” turned out to be the highest earning item at the recent fundraiser raffle. It was reported that the tickets for our craft project brought in close to $1,000!!! Julie had entered our craft creation into the local Orange County Fair.

Hooray! What can be more fun than a few mornings of hanging out with friends, crafting and making $1,000 for a great cause!

Thank you Rachel, Christine, and all the many hands that brought this happy creation into being! Thank you Julie Fish for taking many, many photos of this knitted farmyard garden blanket.

Hooray! Our project won ribbons at the local Orange County Fair 2012!

July 16, 2012. Julie sent us some photos to tell us that our project won several ribbons at the local Orange County Fair!

Details of the little knitted (and needle felted) farmyard garden…

What a fun landscape to play in!

2012 Spring WSOC Craft Group Fundraiser group project knitted farmyard garden playscape blanket square cropped.

There is a little hammock for the baby chick!

…some straw bales for another chick to hang out on

The mother hen watches her brood hiding in little pockets on the playscape.

Here stands the rooster I wet and dry felted on a wednesday morning. I needle felted a colorful tail using leftover pieces of yarn from Christine’s handwork class.

Arial view of that grand tail!

Many wet-felted chickies!

The pieces on the blanket are movable for endless hours of open play.

It is such joy to craft together with friends!

One of the fans of Castle of Costa Mesa is the incredible Sachiyo Ishii. Look at her upcoming book (out in November 2014). I can’t wait to get a copy! Perhaps we will knit this for our Waldorf School of Orange County 2015 Gala craft donation?
