A little cave squats on a tiny piece of land shrouded by thick and salty sea fog. The sand is warm and fluffy. Behold, the rock shelters a tenant!
Peek-a-boo!
A fish maiden calls her home here. She watches the horizon from atop her nest.
A little fire keeps her home warm.
Her cave, overgrown with seaweed, is a celebration of colors and textures!
Hello, and welcome to my little shelter. You can purchase this mermaid and her home on Castle of Costa Mesa Etsy store by clicking on the image below…
Handmade with pure love, from carefully selected materials
It’s a tiny Mermaid:
She is less than 6 inches (about 14.5 cm) long from the top of her head to the bottom of her tail when she is stretched out straight.
She is needle-felted with natural wool roving. Her tail shimmers with scales made of fine sequins. Her hair is made of natural wool boucle mohair yarn.
This is a mini playscape:
The longest span of the oval base is about 15.5 inches (about 39 cm)
The height of the cave is 6.5 inches (about 16.5 cm)
The felt playscape is made with fluffy wool fibers, opulent silk fibers and magical sparkles!
November 30, 2013. Saturday. To satisfy the inner child in me, I crafted this mermaid and her mini playscape cave over a peaceful Thanksgiving holiday break. Alena invited our entire family over for a gourmet dinner party this year. Entire family. That includes those on specialized diets. Our dear friend served us duck: rendered, roasted, braised, and more… sheer sumptous paradise! During the afternoons, we take the children to the Peninsular and they swam in the Southern Californian November sea waters. The true nature of my firstborn’s distress has been revealed to me in the recent weeks. I realize silently and so gratefully that this is the beginning of the end of being traumatized by the myriad of mysteries of his conditions. We are blessed. Pray that I can fully let go of events in the past that have ceased to serve me in the future.
