Tuesday morning, November 19, 2013
On this cold November morning, our craft group gathered in the back room of The Company of Angels school store at about 9am for our weekly craft group get-together.
Today Christine Newell showed our craft group how to “crochet a hat in a single morning using super bulky yarn and a 9mm crochet hook “. This is the quickest way to crochet a hat. We could make one in about an hour and a half! Gisela (who has extensive crochet experience) says “this project is spectacular, simple and fast.”
Cost $15 includes instructions, all supplies (many colorful super bulky/thick yarn to choose from) even you own crochet hook (5.5mm, 6mm, 9mm N).
Gisela fed us freshly baked homemade German plum bread, Alena shared some homemade apple cider and Rachel made us rose petal hot tea! Thank you Gisela, Alena and Rachel.
Thank you Rachel Skelly and Christine Newell for organizing our Waldorf School of Orange County weekly craft group get-togethers! – Jzin

Today Christine taught us to crochet a hat using bulky yarn
The following project will help. We crochet hats in a single morning!
All materials were supplied by Christine.
Christine also taught us how to read crochet instructions.
Some of us are just learning to crochet. Gisela, however has been crocheting since she was 6 years old.
I wet-felted late last night. I am so excited with the process of my wet-felting experiment. This morning, I brought it in to mend the torn parts where the armature was showing through.
Another view of my wet-felting work in progress…
This was intended to be my mermaid’s grotto for my latest playscape. The challenge was building an impromptu resist, and to have that resist carry the weigh and size of this piece. The ulterior motive was to play with colors.
The flip side of this. I was mending the torn areas showing armature that morning. This is yet to be finished, I think. However, presently I do not know what direction the piece is telling me to go, so I have to stop going along with my planned sketches and listen.
Christine showing us how to change yarn and add a different colored trim to our crochet hat.
Gisela, who had been crocheting since she was 6 years old, was the first to finish making her hat. Here, Gisela is having Anička try on the finished hat. It will go to Gisela’s granddaughter for her upcoming birthday.
Gisela’s family has just opened Active Culture Healthfood cafe in San Clemente this weekend! Check it out!

All you crocheters out there, don’t let life interrupt you from doing what you love! Enjoy crocheting! – Jzin

November 19, 2013 Gisela made a girl gnome for her grand daughter’s birthday.
When her jacket is removed, she has a different look. Here she is with her baby next to Alena’s homemade apple cider at craft group.
Josephine also made a girl gnome to keep her Winter gnome company. They have a baby gnome as well, but Josephine forgot that baby at home.

Some Examples of this project from Maple Village School
Christine Newell also teaches handwork at the Maple Village School in Long Beach, California. Our talented friend Cathrine Ji made this winter couple below. They are ready for snow! I love the clever way she made the shoe laces of the boy’s shoes!

Pick up craft kits from front office to make Winter Festival Elves Workshop crafts
If you would like to volunteer and help make some craft items for the children for 2013 Winter Festival Elves Workshop, you can stop by the front office to pick up a kit to work on. Your help is appreciated! Please return kits to office or to Christine Newell by December 4, 2013. After all, Winter Festival is on December 7, 2013.
Josephine made some felt doves for Winter Festival.
Saturday morning. November 16, 2013. My children made Winter Gnome peg dolls for Winter Festival Elves Workshop with my help (while playing a game of chess). Here is my 9 year old (she just turned 9 in November) cutting out felt pieces for the gnome’s hats.
My son helped bake a little pumpkin for lunch that morning. In the interim, he cut some felt pieces to dress the Winter gnomes.
Sunday night. November 17, 2013. Horray! We completed the Winter Gnomes in time for December 7, 2013 Winter Festival.
Monday morning. November 18, 2013. Oh! How joyous they look, in the morning sun!

Jzin’s Little Mushroom Gnome Home and Pansy Flower Fairy
Friday, November 9, 2013
In the midst of my busy mommy days, I made this little gnome home this evening (while keeping the children fed and clothed) ! Kick ass! Yay!
Gnome Home, available on Etsy. Thanks to my ADHD (self-diagnosed), this gnome home is also a night light! Just add a flameless battery operated tea light candle inside and the warm glowing hearth fire inside the gnome home will keep your child company through the night. Go ahead and buy it on Etsy, this way I will have to money to hire someone to my wash dishes as I craft all day! https://www.etsy.com/listing/168671935/felt-mushroom-gnome-home-doll-play?ref=shop_home_active
A toy, a playscape accessory, a home for peg dolls and a sleeping aid! It’s also a night light! You have to add your own battery operated tea light candle inside.
I also made another flower fairy. You can purchase her and all my othe handwork on my Etsy store.
