Tuesday morning, November 5, 2013
On this cool November morning, our craft group gathered outdoors under the gazebo in the garden of The Company of Angels school store at 8:45am for our weekly craft group get-together.
Today Christine showed our craft group how to make “bendable, posable 7 inch dolls with wood and wire frames “. These dolls have large steady wooden feet so they can stand upright without falling over. They have flexible wire bodies for posing and for playing. They are fun to dress up and characterize in felt or wool. For a fee of $15 per 1 doll (or $25 per 2 dolls), we received instructions and the use of craft tools and supplies for today’s craft project.
Please scroll down. There is a Giveaway you should not miss. Reg Down has written the latest Tiptoes Lightly book, The Treasure Cave. Perhaps you can win it on this link here.

Today Christine showed us how to make 7 inch posable dolls with wood and wire frames
Today Christine showed our craft group how to make a bendable, posable 7 inch doll. These dolls would be made with large steady wooden feet so they can stand upright without falling over. They have flexible wire bodies for posing and frolicking. They can be used for doll house play. They are fun to be characterized or dressed up in felt, wool or other fabrics and materials.
Here are some example of bendable dolls by Kathy Kruse of Germany. This set is sold on Magic Cabin for $79.98.
Here’s another set, also by Kathy Kruse, sold on Magic Cabin, with characters from the nativity scene.
Here is one handmade by Christine Newell, as an example for our craft group today. This one is a gnome.
The character stood 7 inches tall. The head, hands and feet are made of wood with bendable arms and legs. The clothing was made from hand-dyed natural wool felt. This was a simple project using blanket stitch and some gluing.
Christine prepared many gorgeous craft supplies for our project, including colorful felt that she hand-dyed herself.
You can buy some of these doll bases online by searching the internet for “wood and wire dolls” or “bendy dolls”.
12/21/13 Jzin’s Note: We did not use these, but I found some lovely bendy doll bodies in different sizes here on A Child’s Dream website: http://www.achildsdream.com/small-bendy-rope-doll-body/
A lovely morning among friends and beautiful crafting supplies!

November 19, 2013. More Bendy Doll Gnomes from Gisela and Josephine
November 19, 2013 Gisela made a girl gnome for her grand daughter’s birthday.
When her jacket is removed, she has a different look. Here she is with her baby next to Alena’s homemade apple cider at craft group.
Josephine also made a girl gnome to keep her Winter gnome company. They have a baby gnome as well, but Josephine forgot that baby at home.
Some Examples of this project from Maple Village School
Christine Newell also teaches handwork at the Maple Village School in Long Beach, California. Our talented friend Cathrine Ji made this winter couple below. They are ready for snow! I love the clever way she made the shoe laces of the boy’s shoes!

Jzin’s Little Mushroom Gnome Home Made Last Friday, now available for purchase on Etsy
Friday, November 9, 2013
In the midst of my busy mommy days, I made this little gnome home this evening (while keeping the children fed and clothed) ! Kick ass! Yay!
Gnome Home, available on Etsy. Thanks to my ADHD (self-diagnosed), this gnome home is also a night light! Just add a flameless battery operated tea light candle inside and the warm glowing hearth fire inside the gnome home will keep your child company through the night. Go ahead and buy it on Etsy, this way I will have to money to hire someone to my wash dishes as I craft all day! https://www.etsy.com/listing/168671935/felt-mushroom-gnome-home-doll-play?ref=shop_home_active
A toy, a playscape accessory, a home for peg dolls and a sleeping aid! It’s also a night light! You have to add your own battery operated tea light candle inside.
I also made another flower fairy. Here is Miss Upside Down Surprise Petunia Flower Fairy. Ready to be shipped from my Etsy store. When held upside down, she is a flower. With a flip, she magically turns into a flower fairy! https://www.etsy.com/listing/168826933/upside-down-purple-petunia-flower-fairy
Yes, when life gives you ADD, you make a doll, I mean a flower, I mean a flower/doll chimera!

Dear Friend,
A long time ago, in a far away place, and in a different life, I ran a jewelry business. I traveled to Thailand and other countries to source product to then sell in Japan. I enjoyed the business and it was successful. But, babies came and I quietly put my jewelry away. Recently, I decided to bring it back out for this show. I really hope you can come.
I have many beautiful, distinctive, hand-crafted pieces made with sterling silver and semi-precious stones like turquoise and amethyst. I think you will love them. I also have a colorful selection of bags and other hand-crafted items.
Please feel free to bring a friend or two as we’ll take the opportunity to enjoy each other’s company while we get a head-start on Holiday shopping.
Please mark the date on your calendar! I look forward to seeing you.
Warmest Thoughts,
Yuko McCarthy
