  • Saturday 4/6/24. Come with us for a field trip to Vista Fiber Arts Festival. We can carpool and leave here tentatively at 9am and make it for the workshops (see above). You must register for the workshops online if you wish to attend them. Let’s hoard some craft supplies in Vista Fiber Festival together! See flyer above.
  • Sun 4/7/24. Costa Mesa Sheep Shearing at Hana Field. This is the first time I hear of sheep shearing in Costa Mesa: Bring your children to this Costa Mesa Sheep Shearing event. There will be rabbits, chickens, sheep, goats, and an alpaca. Come watch them shearing the goats and the sheep.

    • Bring your clothing to embellish! A shirt, an apron, a pair of jeans, a bag? Perhaps embroider some hearts or flowers for your child’s clothes?
    • Supplies and instructions are provided. This session is free, unless you prefer to embroider in an embroidery hoop. Then, the fee for an embroidery hoop would be $5.

    • $40 fee includes natural wool yarn, felt, other materials and instructions.
    • Ririko says – We will enjoy creating gentle natural colors by using plant materials. (3-4 colors) We will dye wool yarns and felts.- We will also explore basic techniques of shibori for one of the dyes.- Please bring:1) An old/new glass jar like a Mason jar or emptied store-bought pasta sauce jar.2) 4 plastic bags for wet yarns and fabrics.- I will wash and mordant yarns, felts and cotton fabrics to prepare them for dyeing. I will pre-make all the dye baths because it will take a lot of time to extract colors. But, in the class I will explain how to prepare yarns and fabrics, and I will demonstrate how to extract colors from plants. If you can bring flowers from your garden or nature walk (dried or fresh), it will be helpful and appreciated. I will bring some, but if we can collect more, it would be better. We will like-wise appreciate collected avocado pits.
